La stima accurata delle dimensioni della ustione è di fondamentale importanza in ambito extraospedaliero, per calcolare il fabbisogno di fluidi da infondere e per evitare le complicanze migliorando gli esiti clinici sui pazienti. La rianimazione con i fluidi è uno degli interventi prioritari nella gestione precoce dei pazienti con ustioni estese e, in letteratura, sono presenti diverse formule per determinare il fabbisogno di liquidi che tengono anche conto della percentuale della superfice corporea totale ustionata (TBSA).
