Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Guidelines for Authors.
  • The text is typewritten, double-spaced throughout; pages are in A4 format and numbered, lines should be left numbered in continuum (10-digit numeric system); the text uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed at the end, rather than within the text.
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word, PDF or RTF document file format
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor). While the manuscript is undergoing the peer review phase, the authors will not submit the manuscript to another journal without notifying the editor.
  • Authorship and Contributorship: All persons designated as authors should qualify for authorship according to the ICMJE criteria. Changes in Authorship: If authors request removal or addition of an author after manuscript submission or during the peer-review process, the journal editors should receive a letter clearly explaining the reason for the change. Please note that if your manuscript is accepted you will not be able to make any changes to the authors, or order of authors
  • Mandatory: Please read this advice and download associated files. The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors has recently published in all ICMJE journals an editorial introducing a new “Disclosure Form for Potential Conflict of Interest”, with the aim to establish uniform reporting system, which can go over the existing differences in current formats or editors’ requests.

Author Guidelines

To submit a new paper to our journal:

  1. Register on the Journal website; we encourage you to register also as a Reviewer at the same time;
  2. Follow the Guidelines for Authors for preparation of your manuscript;
  3. Read our Editorial Policies and our Competing Interest policies.
  4. Log in;
  5. Click on the "NEW SUBMISSION" button to start the online procedure.

To submit a revised version:

  1. Log in;
  2. Click on the title of your paper;
  3. Next to the heading "REVISIONS", upload your revised paper by using the "UPLOAD FILE" button;
  4. Inform the Editors that a revised version has been uploaded.

Original Articles

Original Articles (4500 words max; abstract 200 words max; 50 references max, 3/5 tables and/or figures) Research papers articles: these should be reports of new findings related to critical care nursing that are supported by research evidence. These should be original, previously unpublished works. Research papers should adhere to recognized standards for reporting. These type of articles should have the following subheadings:

  • Introduction/Background;
  • Methods;
  • Results;
  • Discussion;
  • Conclusion;
  • References.

Review articles

Review articles (4000 words max; abstract 200 words max; 40 to 90 references, 3/5 tables and/or figures) Critical or systematic reviews that seek to summarize or draw conclusions from the established literature on a topic relevant to critical care nursing including:

  • Systematic reviews, which address focused practice questions;
  • Literature reviews, which provide a thorough analysis of the literature on a broad topic;
  • Policy reviews, i.e. reviews of published literature and policy documents wich inform nursing practice, the organization of nursing services, or the education and preparation of nurses specifically relating to the critical care and related environment.

Comments/Brief Reports

Brief Reports (1500 words max; abstract 200 words max; 25 references max, 1 table or figure) Short reports of original studies, evaluations, pilot data, and reports of clinical case series. A structured abstract is recommended but not required. Please include no more than 1 table or figure.

Case Reports

Case Reports (1500 words max; abstract 150 words max; 20 references max) Usually document the management of one patient, with an emphasis on presentations that are unusual, rare or where there was an unexpected response to treatment. Authors may also wish to present a case series where multiple occurrences of a similar phenomenon are documented.

Letters

Letters (800 words max; no abstract; 10 references max) The Editorial Board welcomes critical responses to any aspect of the journal. In particular, letters that point out deficiencies and that add to, or further clarify points made in a recently published work, are welcomed. Not all letters will be published, the editorial decision is final. The Editorial Board reserves the right to offer authors of papers the right of rebuttal, which may be published alongside the letter.

Guest Editorials and Editorials (1500 words max; abstract 150 words max; 20 references max) Authors who have ideas for editorials which address issues of substantive concern to the discipline, particularly those of a controversial nature or linked directly to forthcoming content in the journal, should contact the Editor-in-Chief: scenario@aniarti.it.
