I bambini con diagnosi di Disturbo dello Spettro Autistico (Autism Spectrum Disorder, ASD) sono un gruppo di pazienti con bisogni assistenziali speciali per la loro peculiare ed eterogenea modalità di risposta agli stimoli ambientali. A causa delle caratteristiche ambientali di ospedali e soprattutto dei Pronto Soccorso (PS) l'esperienza di cura è spesso caratterizzata da un alto livello di discomfort. I disturbi comportamentali e i deficit comunicativi e relazionali tipici del bambino con ASD complicano la gestione delle emergenze/urgenze sanitarie e rendono necessarie specifiche scale di valutazione del dolore.
