Le terapie rescue dell’ipossiemia refrattaria nell’ARDS comprendono strategie ventilatorie non convenzionali e interventi non ventilatori, tra i quali la pronazione. La pronazione favorisce la ventilazione delle aree dorsali polmonari in maniera più omogenea, migliora il rapporto ventilazione/perfusione e previene maggiormente il Ventilator Induced Lung Injury. La procedura della pronazione del paziente critico può essere effettuata anche in presenza di dispositivi altamente invasivi quali trattamenti sostitutivi renali continui (CRRT) e extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
