Introduction: with the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic and the increase of respiratory viruses, there has been an increase in cases of acute respiratory failure, so it has been necessary to implement high-intensity care treatments even in non-intensive care settings. This survey aims to assess the knowledge of healthcare professionals and the critical issues encountered regarding the use of the Helmet Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (H-CPAP) device in pediatric extra-intensive care settings with the aim of preparing training needs and operational tools for optimal management of the device.

Materials and Methods: a descriptive survey was carried out by means of an ad hoc questionnaire with multiple-choice questions and was open to the healthcare personnel of pediatric departments of a Tuscan pediatric health agency.

Results: the majority of the sample is in favor of the use of H-CPAP in the ward and has acquired knowledge about its use but does not yet consider itself autonomous in its management. The main critical issues related to the small number of staff, lack of adequate instrumentation (telemetry), and finally lack of adequate training.

Discussion and conclusions: the survey highlighted the importance of implementing theoretical/practical training courses, ensuring effective organization and an adequate number of human resources to ensure the highest quality of care.
