Children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are a group of patients with special care needs due to their peculiar and heterogeneous way of responding to environmental stimuli. Due to the environmental characteristics of hospitals and especially of emergency rooms, the care experience is often characterised by a high level of discomfort. The behavioural disorders and the communication and relational deficits typical of the child with ASD complicate the management of emergencies/health emergencies and make specific pain assessment scales necessary.
