Triage is a patient assessment process that occurs in emergency departments for priorities of care based on the scientific method, clinical reasoning, critical reflection, personal style and practical experience. The need to activate the triage function in emergency departments stems from the awareness of an increasingly crowded situation in emergency rooms.
