The experience of nurses during emergency calls made by children: a phenomenological study in the 118 operations centres in Veneto (Italy)
The nurse at the 118 Operations Centre (COP 118) of the Sistema Urgenza Emergenza Medica (S.U.E.M.) during the emergency call must identify the critical condition by using a telephone triage method to enable dispatch, and accordingly send the most appropriate vehicle and staff to the site. Outcomes are better if the nurse is able to recognise the patient's symptoms early on: telephone communication with the caller, especially when it is a child, is crucial. The aim of the study is to find out what mechanisms the professionals put in place when they came into telephone contact with children in emergency situations.
