Il riconoscimento precoce del progressivo deterioramento del paziente e la prevenzione dell’arresto cardiaco intraospedaliero rappresenta il primo anello della catena della sopravvivenza[1]. Nel sistema di risposta alle emergenze intraospedaliere occorre che il personale sia formato per riconoscere i segni di deterioramento clinico e trattarli precocemente, si avvalga di score per la rilevazione dei parametri vitali che permettano di valutare le emergenze, ci siano indicazioni chiare sui criteri di attivazione del sistema di emergenza che permetta una risposta clinica appropriata e tempestiva; inoltre si raccomanda l’identificazione in ogni Ospedale di una “Commissione Interna Emergenza e sua Logistica in Ospedale†come prima iniziativa necessaria per avviare l’intero programma di miglioramento della risposta alle emergenze intraospedaliere.
